"Beetlejuice" Cocktail (BOTB 2022 Day 6) Recipe

Bring Out the Boos 2022

Day 6: "Beetlejuice" Cocktail

By: The Film Bartender

Say his name three times, and the horrifying spirit named Betelgeuse will appear. That is what the characters in Tim Burton's classic halloween film have to deal with as he wrecks havoc and causes mayhem for his own pure enjoyment throughout this movie. It also serves as inspiration for today's cocktail, which is based off of how the famous ghost looks like.

"Beetlejuice" is a 1988 comedy and fantasy film that was directed by Tim Burton and written by Warren Skaaren. It stars Michael Keaton, Alec Baldwin, Geena Davis, Catherine O'Hara, and Winona Ryder. The movie follows a young couple, named Adam and Barbara, who tragically die in a car accident when they drove off a bridge. Instead of spending the rest of eternity in the afterlife, they are stuck haunting their country residence, unable to leave the house they once loved. When a new family moves into their home, which consists of two unbearable parents and their odd but curious daughter, they are tasked with haunting the family to get them to leave the house to have some peace and quiet.

One option they find is to hire a spirit named Beetlejuice, who claims he is able to scare the living. They bring him into the mix, and try to get him to scare the annoying family out of the house. However, what they don't realize is that Beetlejuice has plans of his own, and enjoys wreaking havoc and causing mayhem for the joy of it. Now that they realized how crazy he is, Adam and Barbara must team up with their nemesis to defeat the evil ghoul once and for all.

Burton combines comedy with a fantastical horror element to relate and be appreciated by audiences of all ages. The older audiences can enjoy the more adult humor and horror elements, while the younger audiences will enjoy the craziness and the antics of the evil ghost. This movie is without a doubt themed by Burton and contains his signature flair that can be found in many of this other films. It also contains a fantastic performance from Keaton, who is completely unrecognizable in terms of looks and personality.

Beetlejuice is one of the most recognized and beloved movie ghosts of all time. From his green hair and pale white face to his white suit with the black stripes, almost everyone can recognize Keaton in the iconic makeup, which won the Academy Award for makeup styling. This look serves as inspiration for today's drink, which combines a mixture of the green and black to represent this iconic and mischievous ghoul.

Ingredients:

- 1 oz Vodka

- 1/2 oz Simple Syrup

- 1/2 oz Blue Curaçao

- 2 oz Sour Apple Pucker Liqueur

1 oz Cranberry Juice

- Cocktail Umbrella (to garnish)

Directions:

1. Fill a rocks glass to the top with ice.

2. Add the Vodka, the Simple Syrup, Blue Curaçao, and Sour Apple Pucker Liqueur. Stir with a bar spoon until well mixed, giving a green-ish color.

3. Using the bar spoon, float the cranberry juice on the top of the drink. For distinctive colors, keep the cranberry juice on the top. If you are more concerned with the taste, stir the cranberry juice into the rest of the cocktail.

4. Garnish with a green cocktail umbrella (any color will work, but green works best for the theming of the drink). Serve.

Film Fact: According to Michael Keaton, the Beetlejuice character was described to him by director Tim Burton as having "lived in every time period but no time period." Keaton used this as the jumping-off point to create the character with such features as a shock hairdo, mold make-up, and large teeth. He said that when he first showed up to the set as Beetlejuice, the cast and crew were chanting, "Juice! Juice! Juice! Juice!" This got Keaton excited for the role, and he went on to say that this is his all-time favorite film of his.

Now you have created your very own cocktail inspired by the haunting ghost himself, Beetlejuice! Make this cocktail a spooky favorite at your next Halloween Party, or make it when sitting down to watch this classic Halloween film this October. No matter the occasion, this drink will spice up anything you are doing, and add that classic Tim Burton atmosphere to your day.

This is Day 6 of my Bring Out the Boos 2022 Halloween series, where I will be making a drink every day during the month of October to celebrate the Halloween season. I have made drinks inspired by films like "Get Out" and "The Shining", and there are still drinks inspired by movies like "Ghostbusters" and "Scream" to come! Check back tomorrow for the next drink for this year's Halloween season! Until then, happy drinking!
