This drink is a feast for the eyes! Inspired by "The Evil Dead", this blood-red drink will add a kick to any party or event this is served at! Watch out for the gory eyes that are lingering under the ice...
"The Evil Dead" is a 1981 horror film from Sam Raimi. This is his firs feature length film, and was shot with only $350,000. He casted his friends in the roles, such as Bruce Campbell and Ellen Sandweiss. Due to the graphic sexual content and violence, the film would garner an exclusive NC-17 rating. The film would become an instant cult classic, spawning multiple sequels, a television show, and a whole reboot, with the newest film coming out sometime next year.
The first movie in this massive franchise follows a group of young adults who travel to a cabin in the woods. When there, they discover that there is a "Book of the Dead", accompanied by an audio tape that reads one of the powerful incantations out loud. Because the audio tape was played, it releases a powerful, evil force against the college students, with the evil powers taking ahold of each one of them until there is only one survivor remaining. Now fighting for his life, Ash (the sole survivor) must now figure out how to survive until the morning.
This delicious drink is inspired by the two wicked eyeball scenes that are found in the first and second installments of "The Evil Dead" series. The first movie features a scene where one of the college friends has her eyeballs pressed on so hard, the pressure causes both of the eyes to burst out with a very gory aftermath. The scene from the second movie, however, fits with the more cartoonish aspect of the sequel. Ash drops a trapdoor on a zombie's head, which he then proceeds to step on until the zombie's eyeball shoots out of his head. It then goes straight into the open mouth of a young lady in the corner of the room. The entire sequence is very cheesy and fake, but a classic scene nonetheless. Due to these two great scenes, it is only fitting to have an eyeball inspired drink for these classic Raimi films.
Recipe List
- 1/2 oz Vodka
- Sprite, or any other type of lemon-lime soda
- splash of lime juice
- splash of grenadine
- ice
- Candy eyeballs
Instructions
1. Fill a rocks glass with ice all the way to the top.
2. Fill the glass 2/3rds of the way with Sprite. Then, add the vodka (if you want a stronger drink, add 1/2 oz more of vodka) and lime juice. Stir together until well mixed.
3. Add a splash of grenadine to give the drink a reddish color.
4. Add 2 eyeball candies to the top of the drink to add a scary aspect to it. Serve.
Film Fact: The cabin that was used as the set for the film was also the lodging for the 13 crew members on the film, with several people sleeping in the same room. Living conditions during the shoot were horrible, and the crew frequently argued. The cabin unfortunately didn't have any plumbing, so the actors went multiple days without showering and fell ill frequently due to the frigid temperatures. By the end of production, they were burning furniture in order for them to stay warm.
