Oogie Boogie Jell-O Shots (BOTB 2022 Day 1) Recipe
Bring Out the Boos 2022
Day 1: Oogie Boogie Jell-O Shots
By: The Film Bartender
Well, Well, Well, what have we here?! Add some spookiness and Disney magic to the Halloween Holiday with Oogie Boogie Jell-O shots, inspired by the Tim Burton classic, "The Nightmare Before Christmas"! Take this classic Disney villain and create some spookily delicious shots that will transport everybody who has one into HalloweenTown.
"The Nightmare Before Christmas" came out in 1993, and was directed by Henry Selick. It stars Chris Sarandon as Jack Skellington, Catherine O'Hara as Sally, and Ken Page as Oogie Boogie. It follows Jack as he is tired of the Halloween holiday, and wants to branch off to something new. That is when he falls through the door leading to "ChristmasTown", where Santa Clause resides and it's the winter season all of the time. He comes up with a plan to kidnap "Sandy Claws", and have his hand in delivering the presents to all of the young boys and girls around the world.
He recruits the help of Sally, his longtime admirer, to help him in his quest of finding a new holiday to participate in. However, she has visions that it will backfire, and harm the man (or shall we say skeleton) that she loves.
However, the villainous Oogie Boogie has other plans in store. Against Jack's wishes, he decides to send his henchmen, Lock, Shock, and Barrel, to kidnap the jolly old man and cook him in a stew for the antagonist to eat. However, his plans are thwarted at the last second by Jack and Sally, rescuing the Christmas icon and helping him restore the holiday for all of the kids Jack ruined it for. In doing so, he kills Oogie Boogie, who dissolves into the bugs and worms he has been made of this entire time. He is one of the most famous Halloween movie villains, and even electrifies the Halloween parties at Disney's California Adventure in Anaheim every year.
Ever since its 1993 theatrical release, this movie has completely changed the game of stop-motion animation and Halloween films. It serves as the inspiration for many films in the same genre that came after it, and has become a cult classic many years after it came out.
Our recipe for today is directly inspired by Oogie Boogie as we have these lime green Jell-O shots that feature gummy insects inside and on top. These represent the bugs that are found inside of Oogie Boogie as his sack of a body unravels and shows he is composed of bugs all along.
These Jell-O shots are sure to spice up any Halloween party, and is a fan favorite amongst Disney and Tim Burton fans. Follow the recipe below to be able to make your own Oogie Boogie Shots to have at your next Halloween party this year.
Recipe Ingredients:
-3 oz box of Lime Jell-O
- 1 Cup of Boiling Water
-1 Cup of Tequila
-Gummy Worms
-Gummy Spiders
- Plastic Shot Cups
Instructions:
1. Separate the plastic shot cups from each other, and place out as many as you think you need. Add a gummy worm and gummy spider to the bottom of the plastic cup. Set aside.
2. In a large bowl, combine the Jell-O mixture with the boiling water. Whisk the two ingredients together until the Jell-O is completely dissolved.
3. Add the cup of tequila into the Jell-O mixture. (If you want less-strong shots, add only 1/2 cup of tequila and 1/2 cup of cold water to the mixture) Whisk the tequila in until it is all good and mixed together.
4. Pour the Jell-O solution into the plastic cups, then set in the refrigerator to harden up. (I put my Jell-O shots in for about an hour and a half, but any time duration would work for these.)
5. After the Jell-O shots have set and are hardened, add a gummy spider and a gummy worm to the top of the shot and serve.
Film Fact: Tim Burton said that the inspiration for his poem that inspired this film came after seeing Halloween decorations being taken down in a store and replaced by Christmas merchandise. He said that the juxtaposition of ghouls and goblins with Santa and his reindeers sparked his imagination.
You have now created your very own Oogie Boogie Jell-O shots for your next Halloween party! These will definitely be a favorite at your next celebration, and will have your friends and family coming back for more!
